About This Part

Genuine Mercury / Quicksilver 25-25007 is an OEM O-ring commonly identified as the shift pin or gear shift arm pin seal in selected Mercury outboard and Force applications. It measures 0.215 in. (5.5 mm) ID 0.065 in. (1.7 mm) width and is also documented in Mercury trim/tilt/lift system assemblies from 1994 and newer. Because 25007 appears in more than one component group across different engine families, fitment must be confirmed by the exact engine model, serial number, and diagram position rather than by size or appearance alone.

Compatible Applications

  • Mercury 40 HP outboard shift pin / gear shift arm location (confirm by serial number)
  • Mercury 50 HP outboard shift pin location (confirm by serial number)
  • Mercury 70 HP outboard shift pin location (confirm by serial number)
  • Mercury 75 HP outboard shift pin location (confirm by serial number)
  • Mercury 90 HP outboard shift pin location (confirm by serial number)
  • Mercury 120 HP outboard shift pin location (confirm by serial number)
  • Mercury 150 HP outboard shift pin location (confirm by serial number)
  • Force 75 HP / 90 HP applications gear shift arm pin O-ring
  • Mercury trim / tilt / lift system components 1994 and newer (confirm by diagram)

Confirm by exact engine model, serial number, and parts-diagram position. This O-ring appears in both shift linkage and trim/tilt system diagrams the assembly location determines which application applies to your engine.

When to Replace

Replace this O-ring whenever the shift pin, gear shift arm, trim/tilt component, or related sealing location is serviced, or when inspection shows any of the following:

  • Flattening or permanent compression set
  • Cuts, nicks, or tearing
  • Swelling or distortion
  • Hardening or loss of elasticity
  • Cracking
  • Missing from the assembly during disassembly

Given the low cost of this seal, replacing it whenever the assembly is apart is always the better choice over reusing an aged O-ring.

Installation Notes

Clean the O-ring groove and mating surface before installation. Lightly lubricate with the assembly lubricant specified in the Mercury service manual for the component being serviced. Seat the O-ring evenly without twisting or pinching. Because this is a very small seal that can be easily confused with similar Mercury O-rings, confirm the exact diagram callout before installation.

Parts Desk Insight

25007 is a very small O-ring, but its location on the shift pin or gear shift arm makes it important for consistent, reliable gear engagement. The most common issue is skipping replacement during shift linkage service because the old O-ring looks serviceable a flattened or hardened seal in this location can cause inconsistent shifting or allow moisture into the shift mechanism over time. Whenever the shift pin or gear arm is removed for any reason, replace this O-ring as a matter of course. The same applies to trim/tilt service if the diagram calls for 25007 in the trim assembly being serviced, replace it while the component is already apart.
